Puma ‘Yo MTV Raps’ Get Their Day

These have been a while coming with the whispers starting a long time ago , but from 1st August ( stateside ) and the 4th August in Europe the 25th Anniversary Clydes will be landing at a sneaker store near you .

Limited to 225 pairs worldwide ( 50 pairs of the lime greens ) , Puma have taken the Clyde base and paid homage to the legendary ‘Yo MTV Raps’ show which first aired in August 1988 by releasing 2 colorways emblazened with the show’s logo . Both kicks will consist of a nubuck upper with a raised screen print and pig skin sock liner , with the inner sole not escaping the MTV treatment .

The ‘Forever Fresh Clyde’ will come with an 18 track CD covering artists that have appeared on the show as well as original the ‘Yo MTV Raps’ trading cards from ‘91 . It’s fitting that the Puma Clyde has been given such an endorsement as the history of the shoe is well linked with the growth of rap music and the street culture of the 70’s , 80’s and 90’s .

And now the tuff part …….  Due to the buzz around these shoes , the selected stores that will feature the ‘Forever Fresh Clydes’ will only be getting 35 pairs each , with most giving ‘instore only’ customers the first chance to pick these up , but the good news is , whatever stock is left will be available online after a few days .

With the UK drop location confirmed as size? in Carnaby Street next Friday , these shoes will fly off the shelves as the hype factor comes into play , with sneakersnstuff , wesoldout and SoleBox completing the stores in Europe .

Footlocker Exclusive - Puma Stucture Cat

Innovation and new trainer design has in the past had a very hit and miss appeal with the sneaker community . After a secret campaign - Superstructure - the first kicks in a new Puma range touched down today , exclusively to Footlocker at 10AM this morning .

But what did it all mean ?

Accompanying the launch saw the arrival of a fleet of large space capsules outside of the Footlocker stores around Europe over the last few days and yesterday’s giant footprint in London’s Hyde Park , measuring 40 x 12 metres .

The ‘Puma Structure Cat’ will be released initially in five colorways , Black/Silver , White/Silver and Red/Silver for the men’s line , with Pink/Black and White/Light Blue available for the women’s range . The shoe will have a full grain leather uppper with the newly designed honeycomb heel that sets the kick apart from anything else . Only time will tell if this new design will take off but at £70 a pair , these should fall in line with the masses , rather than the collector , for now .

It’s All Over

Four fantastic football weeks ended last night as Italy were crowned FIFA World Cup Champions for 2006 , not the best game but maybe the right result - What was Zidane thinking ?

Congrats to Puma , for having the winning team and a big thankyou to the German people for hosting such a great tournament . The win for me , just made my trip to the group matches that little bit special .

A Strange Package Arrives

My many years as a spy had n’t prepared me for this , an unmarked package arrived early this morning with no trace of the sender . I feel the mysterious link sent to me yesterday and the secret map co-ordinate may be connected .

I opened the parcel to find my suspicions were right , some how my location had been compromised and the sneaks4freaks offices were no longer safe . I’ve got to get out of here and fast .

How did they find me ? Were they watching me now ? Is my phone tapped ? And what does the footprint signify ?

It’s entrapment ! My name on deeds I never knew I owned , it’s all pointing to one thing . I must find out what it all means , I must reveal it’s secret .

FIFA World Cup Final

So now , after almost 4 weeks of competition , we know the 2 teams who will fight it out on Sunday for the bragging rights for the next four years of being ‘the best’ football team in the world . Since the German’s have held such a well run and enjoyed tournament , it’s seems only fitting that the two competing teams , Italy and France , be kit sponsored by the two brands that started it all in Germany , Puma and Adidas , founded by Rudolf and Adi Dassler .

Since the Dassler brothers seperated in 1948 to form the two seperate companies , Puma and Adidas have been at the forefront of sports footwear and have proved time and time again to be the favorite among professional , with Nike trying to hard IMO , to crash the party . With such classic boots still being worn today , such as Puma Kings and Adidas World Cups , it’s hard to see where other brands can fit in , although hard marketing campaigns from Nike and their Mecurial football boot do come close .

But innovation is king and both brands did n’t disappoint with new designs . The Adidas Predetor has come a long way since it’s first conception by Australian player and former Liverpool striker Craig Johnson in 1994 , with a new design and colorway especially introduced for the tournament , the Predator Absolute  .

Puma , manufacturer of the world’s first screw-in stud boots the Puma Atom , went all camo for 2006 with a grass inspired colorway for their v1.06 iFG , with a black and red model completing the set .
