Nike x Jon Burgerman Competition
Every now and then brand designers look further a field to gather fresh ideas to the sneaker market . This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the likes of Nike offer their shoes to an artist to get their spin on classic designs . As we’ve seen before , brand colaborations with artists are sometimes hit and miss and if history has anything to do with it , these won’t be any different . Along with FootLocker Europe , Nike’s Magnificent Seven series has hit the shelves , a collection of 7 shoes each tinkered with by UK artist and cartoonist , Jon Burgerman .
The theme of the 7 shoes will be expanded to other artists through-out 2008 , with a make up of an 8000 pair production run , each series will be available for a limited time period ( 2 months ) at selected FootLocker stores across Europe .
The collection will feature the Air Max , Air Max 90 , Air Max 95 , Air Max BW , Air Max LTD , Shox R4 and the Shox NZ , a choice of shoes that will please new and old headz alike .
Jon Burgerman is an illustrator from the Midlands - best known for his doodles - has been on the scene for a number of years now , working with the likes of Sony , size? and KidRobot ( Dunny ) while expanding his own toy production with his latest offering , the ‘ Bergermenos Egg Qee ‘ . He continues to produce installations for galleries worldwide with his unique brand of art work .
The designs for this series are subtle and draw inspiration from the venus flytrap , with the panels used for the incorparated graphics kept to a minimum . For me , the Air Max 90 stands out from this collection of shoes with not only the graphics , but the choice of colorway . A good start to what promises to be an interesting venture from Nike and FootLocker .
